Speakers Bio

Ed Middleton PT
Ed graduated with a Bachelor of Science In Physical Therapy with distinction for the University
of Alberta in 1994. He has worked his entire career in private practice with a focus on general
orthopedics and sport physiotherapy. During his career Ed has worked on thousands of
athletes ranging from your weekend warrior to elite amateur and professional athletes for just
about ever sport imaginable. His passion for golf began in the mid 1990’s when, after a few
significant injuries he was unable to compete in collision sports.
With a lot of hard work and dedication Ed lowered his handicap to to a +2 and began
competing in amateur and professional tournaments. He also began studying the golf swing
and noticed that many instructors seemed to have a one-swing-fits-all approach. Ed discovered
the “Fit Fore Golf” program which taught healthcare professionals how to evaluate the golf
swing and identify limitations in the clients body that could impede performance or lead to
injuries. It also taught golf professionals how to modify the golf swing based on the physical
limitations of their students.
Today Ed and his wife DeVera are the owners of Newleaf Total Wellness Centre in Abbotsford,
BC and Ed is still an avid golfer, and is passionate about helping others play the game without
injury and to the best of their abilities. He works on correcting problems areas but he also
looks at maximizing the golfers’ strengths through customized treatment and exercise
programs. Ed is working towards becoming a fully certified “Titleist Performance Institute”
practitioner.

Session Description

Customize Your Most Important Piece of Equipment
The golf swing is a complicated series of movements that can take years to develop and as all
golfers can attest to, will never be perfected. With the incredible technology available today
golfers can have every piece of equipment customized to meet the specific nuances of their
swing. Golf instructors can use technology to breakdown the golf swing and analyze every
moment and movement of the golf swing. Launch monitors provide amazing details on the
impact of the club on the ball and the results of the impact. Golfers spend thousands of dollars
on custom clubs, ball fitting, and lessons. Some spend hours on the range “practicing” but
instead of seeing lower scores and their handicap dropping the results are injuries and in many
cases no improvement in their game. How many of you spend money on improving your body
maximizing your physical strengths?
Ed Middleton, physiotherapist, golfer and owner of Newleaf Total Wellness Centre will be
sharing the knowledge he has gained in his almost 30 years as a physiotherapist, and an avid
golfer and student of the game we love. “How to Customize Your Most Important Piece of
Equipment” will focus on the physical, nutritional and mental aspects of the game. This will be
an interactive presentation and promises to be both informative and entertaining.
